2021 June/July - Visiting Lake Tahoe with Jeff's family

After a year and half, we finally got a chance to visit Jeff’s family in Oakland.  Benjy and Lucy are all grown up and very fun to be with.  We went to Lake Tahoe for a 5-day vacation and enjoyed every moment of it.

June 30, 2021 - Drove to Lake Tahoe

In the morning, we loaded the car with all the stuff we need in Lake Tahoe.  After putting bicycles on the rack, loading all necessities in the car, it was mid morning already.  It takes about 4 hours to drive to Lake Tahoe.  Their new dog Winnie also went with us.  Benjy and Lucy did a great job of taking care of Winnie during the drive.

On the way we stopped at 'In-and-Out' burger in Auburn, CA.  This is a regular stop for Jeff’s family whenever they drive to Lake Tahoe.  It was the first time for Tony to have this famous burger.  It was delicious.

After another hour and an half, we finally reached Lake Tahoe.  Jennifer rented a nice 3 bedrooms home near Tahoe City, CA.  There is also large upstair deck with table and chairs. It was a perfect vacation home.

After we settled down, we drove to downtown Tahoe City, walked around the Lakeside Trail, then we ordered dinner from Fat Cat to bring back to our vacation home to eat on the beautiful deck.

July 1, 2021 - Riding Bicycles and Visiting Sugar Pine Point State Park

Jeff took Benjy and Lucy to do bike riding in the morning.

In the afternoon, we went to the Sugar Pine Point State Park to enjoy their beach.  It is a pay for entrance state park, therefore, the crowd was not bad at all.  We found a nice shaded spot and both kids jumped into the lake immediately.  The lake was very clear but the water was a little bit cold. The scenery was breathtaking.

There were quite a few of people jumping into the lake from a pier.  After we get used to the environment, Jeff decided to encourage kids to enjoy this activity by leading an example and jumped in first. Then, Both Benjy and Lucy jumped several times.  Eventually, when Jennifer came to the pier with Winnie, she decided to do the same.  They all had a wonderful and exciting adventure time.

We had a wonderful dinner on the deck and enjoyed the relaxing dinner.

July 2, 2021 - Kayak Tour and Take Easy in Tahoe City

Jennifer arranged a kayak tour for us this morning.  We had a wonderful 2 hours kayaking and also enjoyed the introduction of Lake Tahoe by our tour guide.

After kayaking, kids decided to jump into the lake to cool off.  It was a fun and relaxing morning.

In the afternoon, we went back to Tahoe City to just walking around, enjoying ice cream and did some shopping.

Then, Jeff and Jennifer took the kids and the dog to Sugar Pine Point State Park again.  Fei and Tony went to a nearby Tahoe Rim Trail for hiking and end up at the Tree Top Adventure Park.

Jeff and Jennifer prepared delicious grilled steak and chicken for all of us to enjoy on the wonderful deck.

July 3, 2021 - Hiking on Eagle Rock Trail

The morning activity was hiking on Eagle Rock Trail. It was a relatively short hike (15-20 minutes). The trail head is a little bit dusty, and at the top, there are some incline.  When you get close to the top, there are multiple ways to go up and you can choose whatever direction you like. At the top you have the magnificent view of the whole Lake Tahoe.  Jeff and Jennifer took a good care of Winnie and got her to the top too.

After hiking, we went across the W Lake Blvd (hwy 89) to the beach to just look around and relax.

In the afternoon, Jeff and Tony went to bike along the W Lake Blvd for about 30 minutes and got a good exercise.

Jennifer and Jeff picked up some nice food for all of us to enjoy on the deck.

July 4, 2021 - Tree Top Adventure Park and Relaxing on the Tahoe Lake and Truckee River

One to the main activities for this trip was to venture into some activities in the Tree Top Adventure Park. Our time slot started at 11AM.  After a short orientation, everyone was let go to try different activities freely.  There are many zip lines and varieties of tree top adventure activities.  It takes no time for everyone to familiar with the techniques and start to enjoy these exciting activities.  Benjy was leading the pack to try every activities first.  Lucy took no time to figure out what to do.  Even Jeff and Jennifer were all enjoyed these activities.

In the afternoon we went to a nearby beach close to Truckee River to enjoy the lake.  Jeff bought a float so he could take the kids to play and float in the lake.  There were a lot of people enjoying all sorts of activities in the lake.

When we walked back to the parking lot, Jennifer suggested to Jeff and kids to float down the Truckee River.  Since the float was not that big, only Lucy went with Jeff.  Half an hour later, they floated down the river to the spot near our vacation home.  Judging from the video we had, they really enjoyed floating down the river.

Jennifer and Jeff made grilled sausage and other delicious food as July 4th dinner along with ice cream as desert.  Life is good in Lake Tahoe.

July 5, 2021 - Drove back to Oakland

In the morning, we drove to Paige Meadow for our last hike and seeing some wild flowers.  However, the trail has very little shade and wild flowers were not as we expected.  Therefore, we just did the hike and then headed back to Oakland.

This was the end of our vacation, everybody had a great time.  On our way back, Jeff took a detour to Squaw Valley for a short photo stop.

The traffic back to Oakland was pretty heavy.  It took many detours and additional hours for us to get back to Oakland.
